Rejuvenating Your Locks

Is your hair dry or brittle? Has it lost its shine? The Sun is brutal during the summer, mixed with chlorine and salt water, that is a recipe for damage and breakage in our hair. The sun and its UV Rays cause the protein bonds in our hair shaft to break down, causing it to loose pigment and have our color to fade. It also causes our hair to look dull and feel dry! SO how can we reverse the negative effects??? Here is a segment I recently did to show you just that!

I didnt really have much time to discuss all the benefits of Coconut Oil but yo can apply it to the hair just like a mask. You can also melt it down and use as a hot oil treatment. I even ue it as lotion, shaving cream and eye make up remover, LOL!!! I love it. ome other products you may find in your kitchen are Eggs, Vinegar, Yogurt and Sour cream. Here are a few recipes for those ingredients!

EGGS: The [raw] egg is really the best of all worlds. The yolk, rich in fats and proteins, is naturally moisturizing, while the white, which contains bacteria-eating enzymes, removes unwanted oils, she explains. To Use: For normal hair, use the entire egg to condition hair; use egg whites only to treat oily hair; use egg yolks only to moisturize dry, brittle hair, Cox says. Use 1/2 cup of whichever egg mixture is appropriate for you and apply to clean, damp hair. If there isn’t enough egg to coat scalp and hair, use more as needed. Leave on for 20 minutes, rinse with cool water (to prevent egg from “cooking”) and shampoo hair. Whole egg and yolks-only treatments can be applied once a month; whites-only treatment can be applied every two weeks.

YOGURT/SOUR CREAM:Styling products (as well as air pollution) can leave a film that both saps moisture and dulls shine—but dairy products like sour cream and plain yogurt can help reverse this damage. Lactic acid gently strips away dirt while the milk fat moisturizes. To Use: Massage 1/2 cup sour cream or plain yogurt into damp hair and let sit for 20 minutes. Rinse with warm water, followed by cool water, then shampoo hair as you normally would. Treatment can be applied every other week.

VINEGAR: Apple cider vinegar removes clumpy residue and gunk in hair from product buildup. It also works as a natural detangler. When used regularly in your natural hair care routine, apple cider vinegar can revitalize your hair, leaving it soft and smooth. The vinegar also works by closing the cuticle of the hair, which makes light reflect off of it. In other words, it makes your hair super shiny! To use: Mix 1 part apple cider vinegar and 1 part water. After shampooing, pour the mixture into your hair. If you have a spray bottle, that works even better. That way you can spritz your hair with the mixture and massage it into your scalp. Let the apple cider vinegar concoction sit for a few minutes before rinsing fully with water. No need to use conditioner! The apple cider vinegar will leave hair feeling smooth and soft.

***THE MOST IMPORTANT TIP FOR ANY SEASON***

When you get out of the shower before you do ANYTHING make sure you put in some type of oil to coat the hair and protect it from the harsh effects of brushing, blow drying or thermal heat damage! Hair is most brittle when it is wet so be very gentle!!!!!

XOXO, Mandi
